Well folks, good morning, good afternoon, good evening. Whatever time it is there, it is so 8 months. I think, roughly with this truck, I have to look back on my videos and see exactly, but I’m pretty sure it’s been about 8 months. Maybe 9 months since I bought this truck and what are my thoughts on the fourth gen RAM and the com icing combination: high output, it’s a 2017 3500 um yeah High put 6.7.
What’S my thoughts compared to the power strokes, so I’ve had. I still have these two trucks. I had a 2017 F250 power stroke Lariat ultimate, then I had a 2020 Platinum, F350 6.7 with the 10speed. These are both six speeds and then I had a 2021 F450 Platinum with the 10 speeed.
So I’ve got some experience with the power strokes and now I’ve got some experience with the ram. So this was the second ram that I bought. The first Ram that I bought was a 2017 3500 dualy single cab uh, which is not here right now. Riley. Has it so now I have some experience with the cummin, so I’m going to do a separate video later on comparing the cumin I’ll, have all four trucks here: I’ll compare the cumins to the power stroke, and especially this generation Power Stroke, because they’re they’re on Power.
Six speeds all around this is before Ford changed their injectors everything in their engine to get more horsepower and torque good of them. These trucks are really close with horsepower and torque, not anymore, for this guy guy, because he’s lost some weight. But you know what I’m saying anyway, so for today um we’re going to go for a drive, I’m going to give you my thoughts, uh living with this truck now for 6 months, I’m probably going to end up comparing not on purpose, but I’m probably going to End up comparing the ram to the Ford throughout the video, but that’s just what’s going to happen. I can already see it coming but uh. You know we’ll talk about the truck itself: uh maintenance, uh interior space, all that sort of stuff being so used to a Ford.
How does the ram feel I’ve done some stuff to this truck, as you can see so new wheels and tires? I put the tires on the factory wheels first um then I end up putting these wheels on I’ve got a leveling kit uh Bill Steen. I think they’re 5100 series shocks all around this truck has Factory air. I’Ve got the banks. Air intake in here, which I can show you it’s in a different spot than it is in the Ford, so there’s the bank’s air intake other than that.
Oh look. The Screws gone H other than that um stop. I do like the looks of this truck. That’S for sure, so I don’t even know how many miles I put on this truck. I think it had like 118,000 or something maybe when I bought it, it’s got 146,000 now so I’ve driven it.
You know quite a bit, but I can tell you one thing that I really like about this truck and I think it’s just the cummin the Rams in general is everyone knows that diesel trucks take forever to warm up, and this truck heats up way quicker than The power shokes like way quicker, so I can tell you one thing: the second I jump in this truck. I realize how much smaller it is in here compared to the Ford here. I am again comparing the truck to the Ford, but it is so much smaller. I have my seat as far back as it will go, can’t go any further and it can’t go down any further and I am like 5 foot. 9.
5′. 9. I can’t imagine a guy being like 62 63 64 driving one of these trucks. So here’s something that I find extremely strange – I guess let’s call it is the mirrors are heated, so the main mirror is heated, but the convex mirror is not mirrors are filthy right now I can barely see it of them at all, but the bottom one, the Convex mirror, which would be the side one if I flip them down, you can’t see a thing out of them: cuz they’re, not heated again. Comparing to the Ford I I I got to believe that they’re, both heated cuz, I’ve, never noticed in the winter time.
The bottom mirror being iced up is that’s strange. I find that I find that really strange like why, wouldn’t the whole mirror be heated and it’s both it’s both sides. One thing that I will say is that this truck definitely rides rougher than my 350 keep getting stuck, comparing the two trucks, but you know that’s kind of the name of the game here uh, I don’t know if it’s if it would be better if it didn’t Have the air suspension uh both of my Rams have the factor air suspension, so I think that’s a bit of a factor is is for a reason why it’s why it’s rougher, but I mean I know. I’Ve talked to two guys in the past and they’ve. Pretty much all said that the fourth gen Rams are are a rougher Rod than the others, Ford and Ford and Chev, and it’s definitely true – it’s not like unbearable, but my wife doesn’t like driving in this truck.
She finds it finds it way too rough um. I do like the factory air cuz. I put airbags pretty on pretty much all of my trucks that I haul heavy with as it is so with these two. With this truck and my other Ram, I didn’t have to do that. I don’t know why the other manufacturers don’t offer it as an option.
Cuz I mean I would. I would check off that box every single time um. As far as the interior goes like, I, I do really like the interior. The thing one thing that I definitely don’t like is that, in order to do really anything with your with your climate or your heated seats or steering wheel wheel, you have to go in through the screen. I don’t like that like as far as your climate goes.
If I right now, I have it on the windshield and my feet and if I want to go in, if I want to change it to my face, I have to go into climate and then I can change the location of it. I can go full windshield, but soon as I do that, then I got to go back in to do you know something else. Um heated seats and and all that stuff are are here or you can go into controls and do it through that way. I just don’t like having to go on the screen for that stuff. I’D like to just have a button.
You know give me a button um, but yeah I mean the the biggest downfall with this truck is how much smaller it is in here um compared compared to the Ford again, I’m 5′ 9 I’ve got the seat back as far as it will go and down. As low as it will go – and I mean I’m not I’m not sitting on the ground by any means – I’m I’m up here. So if you’re, a big guy or girl you’re not going to you’re not going to have a lot of room in here, and I think some people have posted videos where they’ve actually measured the cabs. Somehow maybe diagonally. And the ram is just as big as the Ford or something and if that’s the case, then it’s just poor layout um.
I don’t know if the dash is like too far and then the driver’s seat is back, but I mean the doors are tiny. Look. How tiny this door is like I’m sitting back. My arm is back past the pillar. You know like I.
I tend to drive like this. So it’s fine for me, but if I actually wanted to use my armrest, it’s really not there um yeah, but mechanically, nothing wrong with the truck um. You know nothing. I’Ve had to repair other than uh. U joint!
So I just got back from a long trip. The only time I really took this truck on the road, I just got back from New Bruns from hul, my skid de with the mure around, so it got worked and then it The. U Joint was just toast in my drive shaft um when they put the wheels and tires and the leveling kit on this truck the shop that did. It said that the front end was starting to get a little a little loose ball joint whatnot, so they’re on their way out at already at 140 7,000 km. They were going 20 25,000 km ago um and now I hear a humming noise when I’m on the highway or driving coming from it sounds like the front driver’s side sounds like a wheel bearing I haven’t tested it.
I haven’t checked it. I haven’t taken the tire off, but it’s or the wheel off, but it sounds like a wheel. Bearing is going. It sounds like it’s on this side, so uh Ram front ends. I guess some people say that they’re garbage and some people say that that was years ago, they’ve taken care of that um.
My experience my dual needed basically a whole new front end at uh like 880,000 km um, and now this one here sounds seems like it needs some front and work. So my experience is the front ends are still junk um but anyway, the exhaust brake absolutely phenomenal. The exhaust brake is amazing. This truck am I dually when towing so exhaust brake on and in tow hul. You hook a trailer up to these things.
They know exactly what they’re supposed to do. You hear that not the engine breake cuz, I got that off. That’S the hum, I’m talking about these trucks know exactly what it’s. What they’re supposed to do, the second you put a trailer um behind them. You can come up to a stop or an offramp or something – and you really don’t even need to touch your brakes until at the very end, like the very last part of it they’ll just it will just downshift the exhaust brake will kick on the truck.
Just does it for you, that’s one big thing with the Fords is: there’s more driver input into it, um to get the truck to do it? What it’s supposed to do, or should do you you need to be actively doing it, whereas the ram like if, if I was in towhaul right now, I got my foot off off the gas. If I was in towhaul with my exhaust brake on, it would just be downshift and and and slowing me down. It’S like it looks up ahead and knows knows what what you wanted to do and what it it should do. So I mean these.
Things are awesome for towing, with, like absolutely awesome um as far as daily driving uh, and you know a family truck and whatnot. I just find the cabs too small. I like bow, if I, if, if, if I have the car seat in the back, I got to have this seat way up um and then there’s not a lot of leg room for the person sitting in that seat compared to the Ford the 350. I put him in that and there’s loads of room still in the front and he’s not and he’s not kicking the back of the seat so daily like driving and whatnot uh. I’M not 100 % happy with this truck, but I I mean I really enjoy driving it.
I I like I like the truck a lot um. It seems like, like the interior, is really solid, there’s no rattles and Shakes and stuff that you get with the Ford. Sometimes but uh yeah, I mean that’s kind of my my thoughts, my experience with the truck so far, I’m not unhappy with it. Um, I’m not e static with it uh I’m going to do a separate video, like I said later, on, comparing really comparing the two trucks, the two uh, the Power Stroke versus the cummin, the ram versus the Ford I’ll have my du there I’ll have my 550 To 350 and this truck and uh you know you can get my you get the thoughts on I’ll. Give you my thoughts on which truck, I think, I think, is a better overall truck for you know daily use and then for um contractors.
You know like, like myself, all right folks back to the muddy pit. I do have all the trucks here now, but I don’t have time to do this. Do this second video now, but here they are lined up Ford RAM Ford RAM 8 months later. I definitely still do like the truck um there’s a lot of things about it that I like more than the Ford and there’s a lot of things that I like more about the Ford than the ram, but as far as 8 months of ownership, it’s been good. It’S been really good yeah, I think uh.
I think I definitely would buy this truck again for sure it’s uh, it’s a good. It’S a good all around truck. That’S for sure it is fairly comfortable for the most part. Um yeah, it’s just a it’s! It’S a good truck anyway, folks that is going to do it for this one.
