2023 Ford F-350 Superduty Tremor HO Diesel 5 problems or areas for improvement #2023superduty
I promise to give you my top five things of what I don’t care for about my all new 2023 Super Duty, I’m gon na start with one right off the bat. That’S not my top five, but it is one that’s kind of annoying. I purposely didn’t wash the truck to show you guys this. I just washed the truck about 700 miles ago check this out. It’S brake dust, the amount of brake dust on this truck build up is unreal and it’s just the front brakes.
I’M not sure what it is if they change the brake pads, the chemistry the brakes. Work. Awesome no sounds No noises, it’s just the brake dust. I think this is probably a simple fix if you want to just fix it yourself, but the brake dust is kind of annoying and it’s just it’s just the front, because if you look at the rear, nothing, no, no brake dust. So not huge!
Honestly, not a big deal, but it is something that I would like to see changed, because I don’t think you’re going to see this on some of the other HD trucks. Another thing that I’m not a huge fan of to be fair is the paint quality. I’Ve looked around this truck and saw lots of little paint imperfections, nothing huge per se, but just just little things like I’m going to show you guys one spot right here. I’M gon na go right down the bedside here and see. If you can see like right there, the wind there see, if you can kind of see it, it’s a little like almost looks like little dents like here’s another spot right there and you can’t see it.
But anyhow, there’s like two imperfections right in this area that it’s not a big deal, but in the right light it’s super annoying. Let’S see if you can see the the Shadows hit on it. Ah, you sort of can see it a little bit right there, but anyhow that kind of for a truck this expensive, I feel like. I would like to see a little bit. You know a little bit better paint Perfection on something like this um, but that’s that’s.
Just me, I’ve had a lot of Ford trucks. I was trying to add up the other day. I think this is like at least my 10th Super Duty, and this is my second illuma Duty, so 2020 I had first which had the same transmission and a lot of the updates um that the 2020s received over the 2017 to 2019s um. So anyhow, that’s that’s. Number two number three, and this might be to be fair – probably one of the most annoying things that I I’m.
This is the one to me that is just disappointing. The Center Council Creek is just absolutely unacceptable. I don’t know how to I don’t know how to be more politically correct or nice about it, but it just drives me insane. I just can’t believe this is acceptable. My my 21 Raptor doesn’t do this and I know if you get the Platinum, the ones color covered with leather.
They don’t do this, but I don’t like that um. I bet they come up with some sort of service bulletin or fix, or if anybody’s got a great way to fix this. I love it because, when I’m driving on the road, my knee my wife’s knee on that side rubbing up against it, I don’t care for that. Here’S, the next big complaint get in the truck and there’s a lot of startup sequences that that take place. Now.
I just fired the truck up here about a minute ago, so I think some of this stuff is kind of already started, but if the first time you get in the vehicle there’s all kinds of displays, the connectivity um between the carplay and all the gauges it Takes a while for everything to connect, I purposely just kind of watched for the carplay to kick in the wireless car play and it’s about 40 seconds um. So if you’re on a phone call – and it’s got a transfer over the connectivity in the vehicle – now – that’s not a just an issue with Ford or the super duty, but it is something in this super duty that I feel like could be a little bit better. The other thing that is annoying to me and a lot of a lot of owners share the same complaint. Is this whole menu right here? I’Ve got my little extender, that’s my little cheater that goes on my seat belt, just to to get rid of some menus, but I wish this menu never came up when you start the vehicle.
I just wish it went to whatever you viewed last is what comes up so, let’s just say it was trip one I wish when I get in the vehicle, it would just be trip one. The other thing is now I’m going to put the truck in reverse. All kinds of menus come up, reverse break, comes off, you’ll get all kinds of different stuff. I wish this menu never came up just the amount of default messages. Every time you make an action in the vehicle whether you go forward, whether you go reverse whether you get in and out of the vehicle.
I don’t particularly care for that. Now, I’m gon na get out of the vehicle here’s another. I wish I could turn the chime off. Just these are kind of annoying okay. Now I’m going to shut the door, it’s probably gon na go wild here, because I got the key in my pocket.
Yep no key detected just the amount of Chimes and just information. It just needs to let you go, let you know, and now, once again this goes back. This just proves my point: why can it not go back to my original message? Why does it need to show me around where the seat belt is just? I wish it default back to whatever you had up last that gets annoying if you’re in and out of the vehicle all day doing things I just wish it would just stay where it’s at okay.
This is minor. I I even hate to bring it up because it is so minor engine brake right there. Okay, I’m gon na turn engine brake on right here, the engine brake. How can I just be honest and say this? If anybody’s ever driven a Cummins, the engine brake in the Cummins is Extreme.
It’S awesome if you’re looking for Extreme Engine braking while pulling trailers and whatnot that I think it’s the best. I’Ve gotten that to say up to about 55 percent um. But it’s still. It’S working, it just doesn’t work as good as it comes, so if you’ve never driven a Cummins you’re gon na you’re, not gon na complain, you’re gon na be like all right. This works great, but if you’ve ever driven a Cummins and to be fair, I haven’t been into 23 Cummins, but I’ve been in a lot of 2014 or 2012 to 2022 comments and um anyhow.
They they do work really well it. I think it works a little better on deceleration, but this still does work pretty good. This will be an area where I’d like to see just more engine. Braking I’m not going to call it like. Oh man, I’m super disappointed in Ford, not at all.
It still does its job. I just wish it did a little bit more okay, here’s another one and the older trucks, including my 2021 Ford Raptor. It used to show the temperature on each side for driver and passenger okay, not a huge deal, but I wish Ford would bring that back. They got rid of this. I guess supposedly due to some of the semiconductor shortages, and so some of the newer Vehicles got it, but it’s kind of nice.
When you’re going down the road, you don’t have to pull up a menu or go in anything. You don’t have to hit anything. You could just see it down below because, let’s just say, my wife wants to change the channel or do something on the radio up above. If I want to change the temperature, it won’t only one will work. You can’t be doing both at the same time.
So that’s one thing where I just wish: they would bring back the the little display down below the mile per hour in the middle and the temperature outside on the right. It actually works really great right now, it’s it’s a huge display. The content provided is awesome. There’S two issues, though, with the heads up display in this vehicle number one: it doesn’t work well with polarized sunglasses and in the summertime in Michigan, I’m driving with driving glasses, like brown, tinted, polarized glasses, ninety percent of the time, so I can’t really take advantage. I can’t really take advantage of the heads up display.
Secondly, when you’re going down the road – and let’s say you want to change something um, some of the content in there – you can’t adjust some of the content. You have to be parked, so you have to go down to heads up display which I can do when I’m in park. But if you look at content See, I can change all this because I know once you get going at speed, you can only change your adjustment. You can’t change any of the content and some of this other stuff. What I like, I like all of the features and everything Ford includes – is great: off-road mode works, great, the automotive, the tow mode, all of the features they’re, providing the content uh and the information no problem, the adjustment, everything good nope, no issue.
I just wish once again, though, it was easier to adjust while you’re driving, okay and then this is probably another thing. I’M a little disappointed in is the image quality. I don’t think the camera is on this. The the image quality is very good, and even more so I don’t think it’s all that good. It’S it’s a little laggy and I’ve noticed this with vehicles in the last few years.
I’m making a bit of an assumption here, but I’ve got an assumption that since they started with all the semiconductor issues that it’s putting more Computing need on the vehicles like software and Hardware, so this system taxes the hardware componentry more. So it’s a little. It’S not processing as quick. I have no data to support this. It’S just a feeling.
I’Ve had because Vehicles Prior to covet. I never had a backup camera that lagged, but now I’ve had multiple Vehicles, post, covid and this these systems seem a little bit slow. So I’d like to see higher resolution and less lagging quicker processing to add to this the amount of information that you can do with all the cameras. It’S just awesome see here, here’s a perfect what I’m talking about this resolution – it’s it’s probably not showing here, but this is like you can just pixelization. Even the line of of your um showing down the center of the vehicle is super pixelized.
So but the information is awesome, you know you got 360 cam, you have the front cam, you have the 180 degree front. Cam, obviously, you’ve got the bed, you’ve got the rear, hitch, sorry rear, rear hitch down, and then that’s the trailer. This is super awesome when you’re backing up here’s another thing I I would like this would be a question for Ford. I would love it when I’m backing up a trailer if they’ve seen, I’m I’m back on my trailer into our spot, where we keep our fifth wheel like this to be my default backup screen. I wish, when you put the truck in reverse, I don’t care to see behind the vehicle when I’ve got a trailer connected.
I want to see the sides of my trailer. That’S what I want to see. So my what I’d like to find out is how do you make this the default backup camera view when you’re in Reverse, when you have a trailer connected, so that’s uh, that’s a thing for Ford I’d love to see if there’s an over-the-air update or anything of That nature, okay. Lastly, the light choices and configuration in this vehicle – I haven’t had a tremendous amount of nighttime driving on these to know how good or bad do the factory LED, reflector headlights work versus a projector. They seem decent, they don’t REM, they don’t seem earth-shattering like my buddy’s, 22, F-350 Lariat ultimate with the projectors built in those things are unbelievable.
That’S an area where I wish Ford would have went with a more premium LED or at least stayed at the same quality as the prior generation. I would say: that’s that’s, to be fair, a little disappointment on my side. I I think Ford really cut some cost on that and I get it. You know inflationary costs they’re trying to do the best they can. I don’t I don’t blame them, there’s probably some marketing study.
They did that people would not know the difference between a projector and a reflector style LED headlight and that’s still not a huge deal, but you know you do also get. This is halogen uh, maybe it’s not, it sure looks halogen. It doesn’t go up and down and not LED, whereas like see these are LED and then the rear tail lights. These are the halogen taillights. Now some people are pretty upset about this.
To me, it’s not a huge deal, because the most important bulbs for me in the rear are the backup bulbs and they are LED, and they work really great, and I mentioned in another video. There are some huge benefits to having an halogen rear tail light bulb. I can feel the heat right here, so if you’re driving during the winter time, I would be curious in this winter. I’M going to be paying attention to this, but I bet you, this rear tail light bulb, works better at keeping snow off the back of your truck on your tail lights than if you had an LED rear tail light, so not a big deal and for people That end up damaging the corner of their truck and need a new tail light. I bet you that’s a much cheaper tail light to replace than the tail light, in a say, a platinum or higher trim level now.
Lastly, this truck does not have the payload indicator system, it’s a pretty cool feature, but I’m going to tell you why I don’t want it if you ever plan to lift the truck there’s gon na have to be some little adjustment made to make sure those arms Work correctly, I could just see my luck, be an off-road or doing something kicking a stone up and breaking those arms, and that causes an issue. So I think that’s one of those things for me personally, I think I could live without. I don’t think it’s a huge deal um. Lastly, now this this there’s a pro and con to this, these things right here, the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrax. This is a controversial topic because um a lot of people really like the Duratrax, the tread on these things.
It’S incredible. I mean they got great tread off-road, they’re great in the rain. I have no idea how they’re going to be in the snow, but most people speak pretty highly of them. I got about 6 000 miles in these tires right now of that six thousand miles, probably four thousand miles Towing the tires look great, it doesn’t even look like it shows any percentage of of tread loss, but the thing I don’t care for about them is the Sound and vibration going on the road I just would prefer a little bit quieter ride and I don’t know what option would be better than these, because these things do work great for performance. I just don’t like noise and vibration for long highway driving, but I’ll probably really appreciate them in the winter time and and any sort of off-road conditions.
Here’S another thing that I’m not going to call a Miss on Ford’s part, but it’d be interesting to see what the aftermarket Community comes up with, or maybe Ford these steps right here. I think this would be really cool if this step. Actually, if you had a little button and it popped and it popped down to go about six inches lower, they make an extension you can go onto this, but I’m not looking to go up an extension ladder. I just want one, so this would be something that I would like to see even more versatility in it. Some people hate this man Ford if anybody Ford’s watching good job.
I think this is awesome. This feature and this feature awesome. I use it all the time. These trucks are huge, good job, great great feature and then probably my last comment and I’m not going to blame this on Ford and I’m not going to blame it on 23 model year this weekend. Thank our EPA regulations and the things that the government puts in place, and I know they have their reasons for it, but the def consumption on this truck seems to be a lot higher than model years before I’ve been hovering between 150 and 250 miles per gallon.
Of death when towing, so if you’re towing now this is my trailer at my speeds in my environment, which could be completely different than yours, but the def consumption. For me, I found between 150 and 250 miles per gallon Towing, so I’ve went through quite a bit of depth already now. That’S not Towing that trailer. If I was Towing this trailer it’d be considerably less. That’S a pretty lightweight trailer, but when we’re doing our fifth wheel it definitely is all it definitely uses more.
So you know this is not a Ford specific thing people, so you know. If you go buy a new Cummins, you go, buy a new Duramax. It’S going to be the exact same thing so just get used to this. This is the new world. If you don’t like it, I get it I’m in the same boat as you, but I want the truck so there’s not really much option and there’s no delete kits and all of that stuff um and for what I’m hearing it’s only going to get worse.
In 2027, So it’s kind of like buy an hour forever hold your piece or maybe buy an electric truck in the future. I don’t know: that’s not my style, I’m going to keep trying to buy stuff like this one of the last things that not a big deal. Maybe a lot of car companies are doing this now is the owner’s manual. You don’t get a physical owner’s manual. Now you have to go into, let’s see where it’s at There.
It Is Right. There features if you got any questions or anything you need to know about the truck. You got to go through this system. So as long as this panel and as long as the software and all the hardware is working correctly, you can get in your owner’s manual. But if you’re on the side of the road – and this screen goes out – and you need to know something – your Sol uh.
So I kind of wish they went back to an old school owner’s manual paper that you keep in the glove box. So there you have it that’s my top things. I don’t care for about my 2023 Ford, F-350 Lariat trimmer high output diesel, regardless of all that stuff, this thing’s a sweet truck. I have zero regrets buying it. I still think it’s one of the best, if not the best heavy duty, diesel truck on the market.
I, like the new at4x by GMC. I think the new GMC interior is awesome. It came a long ways what I didn’t like about when I drove it. I thought it rode stiffer than this and I still I’m not a huge fan of an independent front suspension on a heavy duty truck like this, and maybe it was just the circumstances I drove on the one I drove, but I swear. The Duramax did not feel as strong as this, so maybe it’s all in my head, maybe not, but this thing is strong.
If anybody’s still questioning like, should I buy one or should I not, I, I have a 24 on order. I won’t tell you what it is yet, but I have another one of these on order that I will replace this truck with. So anyhow, thanks for watching hope you enjoyed this video hope it helps your purchase or what you’re thinking about getting helps you a little bit more making an educated purchase.
