The Biggest Advantage 34 Ton Trucks Have Over 1 Tons NO ONE TALKS ABOUT!
https://thedpfdeleteshops.comWelcome back. Why would anyone buy a 3/4tonon truck over a one-tonon? We all know the selling points on the one ton, and we’ll go over that in a second. But there is one major advantage on the 3/4 ton truck that we don’t really talk about. So, we’re going to talk about in this video.
I borrowed these trucks from Larry H. Miller Chryser Jeep Dodge Ram in Sandy, Utah. And this is Larry H. Miller Super Ford here in Salt Lake City. These trucks are available for sale from the best of my knowledge.
I do know that Ram is, but this Ford asks for Tim here asks for Jen at the Chrysler store.

Let’s go ahead and talk about the first topic. Now, as I said earlier in the video, most people will say things like, “Who would buy a 3/4 ton over, let’s just say, like this F350.” So, this F350, it’s going to have obviously better towing capacity and payload, and it’s going to cost just a little bit more. So, let’s go ahead and take a look at the window sticker really quickly.
It shows base price for this truck at $52,815. The one next to it is going to be a 3/4 ton. Same bed size, everything, same trim level. So 52815 minus 517 $770. to get a one- ton is only going to cost you $1,045.
And when you think about that from a price perspective, $1,000 is nothing when you’re spending 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, even $100,000 for these trucks today.
h&s mini maxx tuner https://thedpfdeleteshops.comSo, for some people, you can’t even talk about pricing because it’s not that big of a deal. And for me, now that I own a 3/4 ton truck, it’s actually a really big advantage. I have to admit to you guys. and it’s not something that I would have ever thought about until I owned my truck.
So, here’s my first point. Depending on the state you live in, this might work out better for you simply because if you do get a one ton, you’re going to get 12,000 lb of GWR versus 10,190 for this Ram truck and for this Ford here. Now, this is a gas truck.

They didn’t have a F250 diesel for my video, but it’s okay. We can work with this.
This truck has a 10,000 500lb GVWR. Now, if it was a diesel, it would be 11,000 lb. Now, here’s what I’ll tell you. If you’re someone who doesn’t plan on getting a trailer much larger than 10,000 lbs, maybe 30 foot, why not just go with a 3/4 ton truck? Now, if you’re someone who’s going to probably want something bigger in the future, I have friends who have travel trailers and they have dualies, but they don’t ever really plan on getting a bigger trailer.
They just like the idea of just having a overbuilt truck. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m not saying that you should change your your thinking on that. If you want the most overbuilt truck to tow your trailer, I commend you. Why not?
But if you’re someone who lives in the state where they actually, I guess you could say they will take a one- ton truck and classify that as a commercial vehicle or if you have insurance that will classify a one- ton truck as a commercial vehicle.

You could be paying more money to drive a truck that you really don’t need. So, in a lot of cases, a 3/4 ton truck might work best for you. Now, this truck here has close to 4,000 lb of payload. That Ram, because of that mega cab, and because of the options, that truck has no payload.
That truck’s like 1,850 lb. So, for Ram trucks, you might do better with a one- ton just because of that. But again, if you’re not towing a really big trailer, for example, if you’re only putting 800 lb on this hitch, that still leaves you with 1,000 lb for passengers and gear for the truck, right? So, in a lot of cases, this truck might work out better. Now, I’m sure you guys remember in the thumbnail, you saw a Chevy.
Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of space at this dealership, so I had to break up the trucks. But you guys see right here, this is a 3/4 ton truck. And it has an 11,300lb gross fuel core rating. This is a diesel. And you guys see the payload, 3,349 lbs.
Also, you guys see your conventional trailer tow capacity and gooseeneck tow capacity.

https://thedpfdeleteshops.comIt’s pretty big. Now, you want to try to stay within your payload capacity. So, even though this truck shows you can tow a dry toy hauler that has a GVWR of 20,000 lb, I would still venture to say you’re going to exceed this payload. Even if it was a one- ton single rear wheel, you’re going to exceed it.
So, in a lot of cases, you might still have to go to a DY even if you are looking for those bigger trailers. And that’s kind of something you have to consider. Now, this truck is more base. This is a custom trim level, so it is more base, which is why it has pretty decent payload. If it were a higher trim level with the similar uh GWR, it’ll probably have around 2900 lb of payload capacity.

Ford and Ram diesel trucks are going to have similar towing capacities. But as I said earlier, in a lot of cases, if you’re looking to tow a really big trailer, I know some people like to skip out on that F350 DY and just go with a single rear wheel one time. But if you’re looking at a 20,000lb GVWR trailer, even if you’re looking at a 16,000lb GVWR fifth wheel trailer, you might still have to consider a DY versus these 1 ton and 3/4 ton trucks.

It all depends on how you plan on loading the truck up. But back to what I said earlier, if you’re someone who’s looking to tow a travel trailer or something that’s not much more than 10,000 lbs, let’s just say you’re just hauling around a skit steer for business.
MINI MAXX V2 https://thedpfdeleteshops.comYou don’t necessarily need a one- ton truck. And if you’re someone who plans on using your truck for pleasure, too, like let’s just say when you’re not working, when you’re not towing your trailer, you’re using your truck to go to work back and forth.

One of the biggest complaints and biggest questions I get to this day is how does it ride? Most people are so concerned about the ride of these trucks. Even though I will say most of them today ride really good.
Now GM is probably still number one for the one- ton segment. But when it comes down to 3/4 tons, Ram does have the best riding 3/4tonon truck simply because of the suspension on this one. So, if you look below here, you guys can probably tell this does have a multi-link rear suspension. So, because of the coil suspension that you have, Rams do ride extremely well, even with Ford. Now, this is the gas truck.
So, the Leaf Pack, it isn’t as overbuilt as it would be if it were a one- ton truck. And when you consider GM’s standard leaf pack for 3/4 tons, you don’t get the overloads, which means this suspension is going to ride just a little bit softer. And that is what a lot of people are looking for with these trucks because most people are using these trucks mostly for pleasure, cruising down the highway.

And here is the biggest thing that most people overlook when they buy these trucks. Most people when they’re looking to get a pickup, most guys want to add more aggressive wheels and tires.
And sometimes the tires that they choose have a lower tire pressure. So for a 3/4tonon GM, they’re showing 60 PSI in the front, 70 in the rear. Ram trucks say 65 all the way around. And lastly, Ford says 60 out front, 65 in the rear. And that’s going to be the same for the diesel, too.
I just looked it up.
The Biggest Advantage 34 Ton Trucks Have Over 1 Tons NO ONE TALKS ABOUT!
https://thedpfdeleteshops.comSo, here’s my point. If you’re someone who’s not ashamed to say you want a good riding HD Superduty pickup truck, the best way to go is 3/4 ton. If you’re looking at one ton trucks, their tire pressure in the rear is 80 PSI and typically it’s 70 for the front tires. Running the tire pressure that high is going to really, really suffer on overall ride quality.

And as I just showed you guys, the suspension is more overbuilt on the one- ton trucks compared to the 3/4 ton counterparts. Now again, if you get the high capacity trailering package, I think the spring rate is the same for the 3/4ton diesel trucks, but again, you’re not required to have to run these tire pressures at max PSI. So, this is just something to consider. If you’re looking to buy a truck and you’re not looking to tow much more than 10,000 lb, then why do you need a one- ton truck? And I’m not trying to talk anyone out of a one ton truck.
I’m just trying to say, hey, if you’re someone who’s looking at a HD segment pickup, these are just some things to consider. When you consider the fact that you can run this tire pressure slightly lower for an even better ride, it just doesn’t compare. These 3/4 tons with the softer suspension and the fact that you can run it at a lower tire pressure in the rear is why I always recommend if you’re not towing a big trailer, this is the best way to go 100%.

Someone actually asked me, “Why do I run my tire pressure so low on my truck?” Well, my truck being an AT4X, I believe the tires have a max capacity of 65.
And I think GM recommends to run them at 55 or it might even be 45 or 50. I can’t remember off top of my head. I’ll show it to you here. But here’s what I’ll tell you. When you want to run it a little bit lower, if you run it too low, the tire pressure light will come on.
I do know with GM pickups, they still do not allow you to change that in the computer. So, if you do get bigger wheels and tires and you want to run that tire pressure a lot lower, you’re going to have a light come on.

And let me tell you, GM trucks are very annoying for the tire pressure light. Very annoying. I believe Ram does allow you to change that.
But if you’re not looking to get bigger wheels and tires, and you’re not looking to tow a trailer much more than 10,000 lbs, I would venture to say that the best riding truck you can buy is going to be one where you can run the tire pressure even lower than what the yellow sticker says. Now, again, do that at your own risk. I mean, obviously, I got to be careful what I say sometimes. I’m not recommending you do something that could potentially cause an accident or anything like that. So, just do what you can within reason.

So, most people who buy these trucks, if they do want to get a better riding pickup, they’ll run the tire pressure even lower than what’s on that yellow sticker, therefore giving them a better riding pickup. And on the one- ton trucks, because they’re at 80 PSI in the rear and typically 70 in the front, you’re going to have a stiffer truck overall with that stiffer suspension. So, that’s all I have. That’s all I wanted to talk about. A lot of people are asking me about this on my truck, and that’s why I’m able to run at a lower PSI because I have a 3/4 ton truck.
But if you have a one- ton truck, you are limited to what you can do on the tire pressure.

But let me know you guys’ thoughts down below. I think that if you’re looking for the best riding pickup, it is the Rams for sure because of that coiled suspension. And when you get the air suspension, it does really help the overall ride when you’re towing a trailer, too. So, yes, this is the best one in the 3/4 ton segment.
As far as one ton goes, I think it’s neck and neck between Chevy and Ford. and Ram has gotten better for 2025, but I have to drive it back to back with one of these trucks. So, be sure to subscribe to the channel. I’ll probably do that in a couple months or so. I’m still trying to get my feel for the Ram truck before I start comparing it cuz I want to give it a fair apples to apples with everything else out there.

So, yeah. If you like this content, be sure to subscribe to the channel. Thanks for watching. See you guys soon.
