It is time it’s been 3200 miles since we’ve had the GMC 3.0 Duramax. Let’S give it a quick review. Basically, it’s almost like an extended test drive at 3200 miles, but we’ve put it through its Paces almost had it, for maybe I don’t know I guess about a month, maybe plus or minus after check anyways we’re going to go over everything that I like and dislike For 3200 miles, it’s been off-road, onroad uh. The only thing it hasn’t really seen is rain, cuz, it’s the South and we’re finally about to get rain.
So let’s take you through everything that I’ve actually really liked things. I actually, surprisingly, didn’t like and things that they’ve changed so give you a whole feel of what it’s like so far and then some of the plans that we have for this truck just an honest review here. So obviously from the start, 2024 gmcc, 1500 elevation, Duramax. 3, l, it has the X31 off-road package, which is not the at4, but it does give you some of the off-road goodies like some better tires and better shocks. So let’s start from the front we’ll go to the back, then we’ll do interior.
So the redesign is really sharp. I actually really like it. I don’t think I’m going to get bored of it. I love the new headlights, the dark out, blacked out headlights, it’s not super different from the last generation, but it is a lot sharper. I think uh moving to the side, you have your typical Bridge Stone tires on 20in Wheels uh if you’ve seen any other past videos.
I have a lift kit on order. We’Re going to go Mild to Wild we’re going to do it in uh Progressive stages. The lift kit I have now it’s on back order and I’m going to give it a couple more weeks and if that doesn’t come through, I’m going to just take it to the next level, trying to keep it under warranty. For the first step. Just to let the gremin work out, if there is anything hidden in this truck that hasn’t popped, its ugly head up yet uh.But if not, if this lift kit stays on back order for weeks and weeks, I need I’m going to make it taller so anyways, attractive 3 lit durx uh. We got to do the thing cuz. You know. This is why a lot of a lot of y’all are here. Let’S, let’s do the the Dizz diesel set sound sounds really good.
It is uh, it’s loud enough to where you know it’s a diesel, but it’s really refined. It’S really quiet on the inside. So you don’t ever get tired of it. Um, it’s just the appropriate amount of sound. I think in general, we’ve got the high clearance running boards here that are metal really like those.
Those were a solid choice. No bed liner in the back, no rear view. No sliding rear window, so here’s the first thing that I really don’t like and it’s so Random. So if you look here, you’ve got about half a finger space on this side and then let’s come over to this side. It’S not the same, and I noticed it.
One day and it’s not like it’s touching the glass, it’s so crazy, I kind of think it’s going to break the glass. If I hit something I don’t know it’s it’s not straight, which is kind of it’s crooked. So such a random, I don’t know anyways. We did the badges black in another video uh just uh two videos ago. One video ago we did the the exhaust tips black got rid of a lot of the Chrome on the back.
I think it looks way better. So that’s the quick exterior. I don’t really have any exterior dislikes other than I would have liked, having the rear sliding window um and that it’s too low to the ground, but both of those things could have been resolved with an at4 package. If you wanted to go that way, I was trying to work the system, make it a little cheaper, which it still is. You just have to take care of the things yourself so anyways uh, I don’t care about color matched mirrors.
You can fix that later. If you want to blacked out Grill we’ll take care of this front emblem, we already did have a comment already on how to plaster dip this without messing with the engine behind it. So that’s going to be a separate video or maybe even just a short, because I don’t think it’s that complicated these fog lights do nothing. They do they’re so lame. I don’t know like they’re sharp looking and they look good when they’re on, but they don’t do anything for brightness, so uh whether we go aftermarket bumper with like some rigid or Baja design lights – or you can add some light this.Actually, this space is huge and you can add some uh aftermarket light bars behind the grill might go that route, because this seems a lot bigger than previous generations. So uh you could do something unique or stick them. You know we got room for lights, anyways, fog, lights, do absolutely nothing don’t count on them to save your life. They just look kind of nice. So let’s go to the interior, so uh, actually before we do that this button is, is a dislike for me.
Uh! It’S really it’s really loose the past generation. It was kind of tucked in smooth. It was on all four doors. Now it’s just on the driver and passenger front doors, and it’s it’s a little cheapy feeling um anyways redesigned this head cloth seats inside of it.
We put leather inside really good decision. I added on just a couple hundred dolls to the Dealer’s price uh. If you’re going to put leather in it, just do it a part of when you buy the vehicle, it’s so much cheaper to do it. If they tell you $ 2,000 to full of it, they can get it done. For a couple hundred most of the door is the same.
This padding has been updated. A little bit feels a little bit more uh modern. It’S got some sharper edges to it. Truck’S a little dirty cuz, we do use it. We take it Offroad so 3200 miles on the dash, I’m not going to turn it on, because I’m recording with my phone and that’s just going to mess it all up.So we’re not going to that. But I’m going to take you through all the thoughts, so infotainment is awesome, really responsive turns on Apple CPL, really fast automatically, which is cool I actually really like. So I don’t use the wireless charging because for some reason my phone is really slow, but this opening here for a cord is awesome because you can shut this, you can pull it in and out and then your phone rests right here and it’s great one of The problems I have with midsize trucks is I’m 6′ 2 three, something like that: lots of room lots of room for the knees. This is a big deal for me personally, um there’s never enough space, but I feel very comfortable in here. This redesign is really sharp.
One of the things that I saw that I thought was silly. I thought it was silly and I thought people were being overly dramatic, that the surfaces in the truck are too reflective and I’m like yeah, it’s just it’s a nice interior. No, the surfaces in here are too reflective right here. Uh here, there’s some spots like here and here and depending on where the sun is. It is like crazy bright, you can put sunglasses on and it doesn’t matter it could hit here.
It’S like, throughout the day there is somewhere along the truck out of like the 12 trucks that I’ve owned. I’Ve never had a truck have all so many reflective surfaces that come back straight at the driver. I don’t know it’s it’s beyond me. Anyways, it’s not the big deal, but there’s nothing you that you can do cuz. If you make this matte color or you put a cover on it, it’s going to look kind of silly.
I don’t know if you have a. If you have an idea. Put a comment down below there’s a Cool Storage right here for pine cones. You got to have your pine cones. Otherwise you know lots of storage.
More more than Storage storage on storage in here uh interior is great. I don’t have really any complaints. Um only thing is that some of it feels like the quality, maybe less this kind of creeks sometime, but if you just press it, it goes away for, like every 10 drives steering wheel, is the same as a 2021 uh that we had pre previously on the Channel uh, my only real other complaint – I guess I have on the interior – is when you get in and out of the truck my knee has been hitting here so either the mode switches or I’ve hit the light adjustment to where the lights didn’t come out automatically Because the parking lots got turned on not a big deal, but it’s you know if you’re tall and I got the seat back already. My knee still hits it. I don’t that’s a meat problem, I guess, but something to be aware of that.
I don’t know why. They moved it down here from up here where it was uh previous generation, but you know not that big of a deal so uh let let’s get out of the truck but I’ll tell you about miles per gallon, because you know this diesel engine is a big Deal so believe it or not. You know, I think it’s rated for like 27 miles per gallon. You know all the time, but it I got on like an 80m road trip. I kid you not 37.m per gallon,
that’s being really really careful! I’M talking like driving with the tip of your big toe, barely touching the gas pedal, I got almost 40 mes per gallon, let’s be real and I get like 650 to 700 miles per tank. It’S a lot, it’s a whole lot and I’ve. Never I mean you can’t there’s no midsize truck out here. You can buy.
That comes close to that, which is unfortunate, that you can’t put this motor in like a Colorado. Because can you imagine if the Colorado got 40 mes per gallon and you had like the ZR2 that would change everything cuz these tires are already 33s. They already come come with 33in tires. So if you give you know, just I don’t know it’s crazy. It’S a lot of miles per gallon, so that’s awesome!
I cannot explain that to the fact that you can drive from like South Texas to Denver on a tank and a half of gas. You know it’s a th miles door to door. That’S unbelievable! That you, that you can do that, it’s super cool um and you know it’s with just a 24 gallon tank on top of that. So really neat.
Oh, let’s see what else so things we’re going to do. We’Ve already tinted the truck we put leather on it. We added the steps we’ve made, the badges in the black in the back black. We got rid of some of the Chrome action. That’S back here, CU who needs Chrome, it doesn’t get you home, we’re going to bring it up, bring it taller, bigger, tires, uh one.
It’S a personal preference. I like to go camping in the back country, things like that, but also for work. The issue with the elevation. The elevation is super attractive, but you know when you’re going Offroad. This is really low to the ground.It looks really good as a truck as as a whole from the start, but my last elevation, I put a big old dent in the front bumper and they wanted so much to fix a small dent it just wasn’t it just wasn’t even worth it for me To fix it, so the solution you know is lifting it bigger tires. You don’t have to you know you can still fit 34 in tires on, like a 12 wide with a basic leveling kit, and as long as your offset is positive, you don’t rub. You don’t have to cut you, don’t have to do anything like that. Um I mean overall, this truck is awesome. I’M really excited about it.
I haven’t had any issues yet. I know a lot of people have issues and those people that did have issues. It really stems from one specific place, and that is with the emission systems and the diesel exhaust fluid and speaking of diesel exhaust fluid I’ve done my 3200 miles and it’s still half full I’ve, never added dep to this tank. Yet I probably will just be safe. Just to keep it away from having that warning light issue or anything related to that, but I think I really think the key to this truck is that if you driveing – and you don’t just do like – I go to the grocery store two miles away and I Come home I go to the grocery store two miles away and I come home.
I think that’s where you don’t get regions and things start to clog up and have issues for me. I’Ve been driving relatively far. You know at least 20 miles each time, I’m really getting in the car and going anywhere with the exception of going to a local corner store, or something like that. So I think, as long as you’re driving it every so often on the highway, getting it up to speed 50 60 70 mph and running it for a decent amount of time. It’S able to regen on its own and you don’t even have that ISS, you don’t even know when it’s doing it.
So I think that’s really the main thing that keeps this engine running proper and from what I understand. Gm is upping this little Duramax engine to almost 50 % of its Fleet for sales next year, so this is not going anywhere. The issues that have been happening are not nearly enough to keep them from selling more because it’s so efficient. I think the populator of this truck is going up and I don’t know how you compete with it in why anybody would buy a midsize truck versus this. If the size isn’t an issue, then you’re going to get better miles per gallon, and you know all that.
I want to know what your thoughts are things that you want to know about this truck we’re obviously going to continue to modify it. It’S going a little bit slower because things are in back order.
